Eulogies

Eulogies - S/T

E’ una questione di stimoli, sono passati decine di dischi senza che l’impulso di scriverne prendesse il sopravvento sulle resistenze create da diversi fattori, non ultimo quello della mancata disponibilità di banda adeguata nelle dislocazioni estive. Non che non siano apparsi lavori degni, tutt’altro, tipo Roots & Echoes dei The Coral o Pull The Pin degli Stereophonics, ma anche Asleep At Heaven’s Gate dei Rogue Wave e Cease to Begin dei Band Of Horses.
Lo stimolo è arrivato con gli Eulogies ed il loro debutto eponimo, non tanto in funzione del valore assoluto del disco, ma piuttosto in quanto la loro scarsa fama potrebbe contribuire all’inosservato passaggio del loro esordio, meritevole invece di una chance sui lettori di chi apprezza la musica indie sincera, che non cerca di stupire con sonorità improbabili, ma preferisce invece il conforto della tradizione. Sulle loro tracce mi ha messo il rivenditore online di fiducia, che mi ha suggerito: “visto che hai acquistato How We Operate dei Gomez, dovresti prestare attenzione agli Eulogies, dato che dovrebbero piacerti”. In realtà i Gomez c’entrano ben poco, così come gli Starsailor (il fatto che fossero stati in tour con loro è stato il secondo indizio che mi ha fatto rizzare le antenne). I Panegirici (tale è il nome del gruppo in italiano) vantano invece influenze più folk, come Iron & Wine, la divina Chan Marshall ed il precursore Neil Young e sono guidati da Peter Walker, che ha deciso di abbandonare il sentiero del solista per dedicarsi ad un’esperienza più collegiale, e credo che abbia fatto una scelta corretta. Blizzard Ape è certamente rappresentativa di questo retaggio, mentre One Man e Under The Knife sono più ariose e melodiche, di pronto accesso.
