Delta Spirit - Ode To Sunshine

Tendo a guardare con sospetto alle definizioni iperboliche, per cui quando leggo “the best new band in America”, anche se riportato da più fonti molto attendibili, prevale il sospetto e quasi il pregiudizio. Eppure, sarà perché il loro suono sudista è uno di quelli che mi arriva dritto al cuore, sono sufficienti poche tracce per dissipare l’istintivo scetticismo. I Delta Spirit vengono dal sud, ma non dal quel lato atlantico della amata tradizione southern, bensì da quello pacifico, da San Diego. La settimana scorsa è stato pubblicato, autoprodotto, l’album d’esordio Ode To Sunshine, ma la prima apparizione risale allo scorso anno con l’EP I Think I Found It!, che a mio avviso contiene il loro brano più riuscito: French Quarter, pezzo scritto quando i cinque californiani non erano ancora una band. Adesso comprendo perché quando facevano da spalla ai Cold War Kids, ai CYHSY ed ai Dr.Dog, gli spettatori alla fine si rammaricavano che non avessero avuto abbastanza spazio sul palco. “They are about reminding You to listen more than You talk”: d’accordissimo.

Math And Physics Club

math And Physics Club - Baby I'm Yous EP

Uno dei brani che più risulta gradevole alle mie orecchie in questi giorni è Baby I'm Yours dall'omonimo EP dei Math and Physics Club, un gruppo indiepop nella accezione più twee del termine. Coagulatasi a Seattle negli ultimi tre anni, anche se alcuni componenti sono bostoniani, la band è stata correttamente triangolata tra Belle & Sebastian, The Lucksmiths ed una certa produzione di Marr/Morrissey. L'occasione è stata propizia per ripercorrere a ritroso la loro discografia, che comprende il debutto eponimo pubblicato alla fine del 2006, ed altri due EP del 2005: Movie Ending Romance e Weekends Away, trovando ottimi riscontri in ogni episodio. Vivamente consigliati ai molti estimatori di Stuart Murdoch.
