British Sea Power
Do You Like Rock Music? è un gran bel disco che riuscirà a farsi perdonare uno dei titoli più insipienti a memoria d’uomo. Che i British Sea Power fossero un insieme talentuoso non v’erano dubbi, dato che entrambi i precedenti episodi avevano fornito ampie garanzie a riguardo. A dare ulteriore spessore a questo terzo titolo giungono due rinforzi canadesi: Howard Bilerman, batterista negli Arcade Fire ai tempi di Funeral, ed Efrim Menuk, dei monumentali A Silver Mt. Zion e Godspeed You! Black Emperor, alla produzione. Questi ingredienti aggiuntivi si sentono tutti, e alcune deviazioni post-rock sono semplicemente deliziose, tipo la strumentale The Great Skua. Ma il gruppo di Brighton non ha mai rinunciato ai brani più radiofonici, ed anche in questo album sono ben rappresentati dal singolo Waving Flags e da Atom, pezzo che in verità è già apparso sull’EP Krankenhaus? uscito quest’autunno, anche se in versione leggermente diversa, mentre le due differenti coniugazioni musicali si combinano efficacemente nei sei minuti abbondanti di Lights Out for Darkier Skies. No Need To Cry appaga invece la ricerca di una ballata ovattata e sognante, giusto per iniziare l’anno che verrà in maniera morbida.
