Con lo spirito dei The Smashing Pumpkins, lo strillo dei Placebo, la portata dei Muse (eh già) e la coscienza dei Manic Street Preachers, ma anche la grazia di Jeff Buckley e l’isteria dei Pixies, i Fear Of Music estraggono un suono vergine tutto loro”.
Questo scriveva un paio di mesi fa Alex Fordham della agenzia PR Scruffy Bird (che si occupa anche dei Foals, Young Knives, Feeder e Liam Finn tra gli altri), accompagnando la comunicazione con un paio di demo che lasciavano intravedere come, tra le iperboli di un abile consulente di pubbliche relazioni, risiedesse una certa dose di verità.
Sin da allora ho raccolto materiale a riguardo di questo nuovo gruppo di Manchester, ma soltanto la pubblicazione dell’album di esordio, Actor / Actress, consente di rimuovere le riserve del caso, facendo giungere alla considerazione che se i quattro giovani mancuniani probabilmente non raggiungeranno mai le vette delle icone a cui sono stati accostati, di sicuro si meritano un occhio di riguardo nell’ambito della moltitudine di gruppi che vengono sfornati settimanalmente oltremanica.
